The 2014 Winter Olympics, formally called the XXII Winter Olympic Games, will be an international athletic event that has yet to be organized by the International Olympic Committee. The organization under the leadership of Jacques Rogge is currently preparing to mount calls for cities to bid for the honor of hosting the event. The winner will be announed in 2007 at an International Olympic Committee convention in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Host Bids

Annecy in France, Salzburg or Innsbruck in Austria, Sofia in Bulgaria, and Östersund, Sweden have formally announed their intentions to compete for the honor of hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics. Other potential bids are likely from Andorra la Vella, Andorra; Grenoble, France; Pyeongchang or Muju, South Korea; Jaca, Spain;

Cities which have withdrawn their bids include Munich, Germany, Tromsø in Norway and Zurich, Switzerland.

The United States Olympic Committee, under its unique selection process, is currently conducting feasability studies for potential American bids for the 2014 Winter Olympics. The most likely contender is Lake Tahoe; Lake Tahoe, which shares a border with California and Nevada, has conducted feasability studies for both the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics.
