Alicante (province)

Alicante (Catalan, Alacant) is a province of eastern Spain, in the southern part of the Valencian Country. It is bordered by the provinces of Murcia, Albacete, Valencia, and the Mediterranean Sea.

The population of the province is 1,557,968 (2002). Its capital is Alicante. Other major towns of the province include Elx, Benidorm, Dénia, Xŕbia, Altea, Orihuela, Torrevieja, Elda, Novelda, Villena, Alcoi, Calp. See List of municipalities in Alicante.

Benidorm is a major seaside resort.
