An Affair to Remember is a 1957 movie.
Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr star as a couple who meet on an ocean liner and promise to reunite in six months at the top of the Empire State Building if they still love each other. On the day of their scheduled rendezvous, tragedy strikes, and the couple remains separated until fate once again intervenes.
It was directed by Leo McCarey and was a remake of McCarey's 1939 film Love Affair, starring Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer.
Nora Ephron's 1993 film Sleepless in Seattle, starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, was inspired by An Affair to Remember, and clips from the earlier film appear throughout.
Warren Beatty later wrote and starred in a 1994 remake that reverted to the original title, Love Affair, with wife Annette Bening. It featured Katharine Hepburn in a small but pivotal role, which proved to be her last screen appearance.
