Anandamatha is a famous Bengali novel, written by Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay, one of the most important novels in the history of Bengali and Indian literature. Its importance is heightened by the fact that it became synonymous with the struggle for Indian independence from the United Kingdom.

The song "Vande Mataram" was a part of this novel, although the was song itself was written earlier.

The novel is about the war of independence fought by monks.
