China telephone numbering plan

From open-encyclopedia.com - the free encyclopedia.

The Chinese Telephone Code Plan is the way to group telephone numbers in China. Typically a "0" is added in front when dialing from within China, but is never added when dialing from outside China. Domestic phone numbers in large cities have 8 digits, and in other areas 7 digits and no less.

In China, Mobile phone numbers start with 13 and usually have 11 digits.

  • Area 6 is reserved for Taiwan.

The Republic of China on Taiwan currently uses the international calling code of 886 while mainland China uses 86; if Taiwan switched to the telephone numbering plan of mainland China, then its international calling code would be 86-6, one digit away from its current caling code. This is why Area 6 is reserved for Taiwan.
