Byrd Park is a park located in Richmond, Virginia. It includes a one mile running track, with exercise stops, a public dog park and a number of small lakes for small boats, as well as two monuments and an ampitheatre. The Christopher Columbus Monument was controversial at the time of its construction due to the fact that it honored Italian-Americans. The World War I Memorial Carillon, built in 1926, is a memorial to those who died in that war, containing 56 bells. Dogwood Dell Ampitheatre has annual summer concert events, including a fireworks display on the 4th of July.
