Capital Regional District, British Columbia
From open-encyclopedia.com - the free encyclopedia.
The Capital Regional District is one of many regional districts in British Columbia. It encompasses the Southern end of Vancouver Island including Greater Victoria, the west of the Island to Port Renfrew, and includes all the southern Gulf Islands (Saltspring, Galiano, Pender, Saturna, and Mayne). The seat is Victoria.
The CRD runs the local water supply for Greater Victoria, located in Sooke. They also run a number of regional parks. The CRD can also pass bylaws that are binding in its member municipalities. These include a controversial smoking ban in all public places several years ago.
