Colby College, located in Waterville, Maine, was founded in 1813. Colby is known for its challenging intellectual life, supportive campus atmosphere, and global reach. 1,800 students from various backgrounds and from more than 60 countries live and study together on Mayflower Hill, one of the nation’s most picturesque campuses. Colby offers 53 major fields of study and is a national leader in the use of undergraduate research and project-based learning in its academic curriculum. The depth of student-faculty collaboration is extraordinary. Graduates are well prepared for a broad range of careers and many go on to the most selective advanced-degree programs. Volunteer programs and service-learning in class take many students into the surrounding community, and more than two thirds of Colby students participate in study-abroad programs. Colby is in the midst of a major campus expansion and building program, and programmatic initiatives are also underway, including the Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement and new programs in neuroscience.
Colby is one of three small but prestigious colleges in relatively small Maine cities. The other two are Bowdoin College and Bates College.
