Connie Mack Stadium

From open-encyclopedia.com - the free encyclopedia.

Connie Mack Stadium, originally called Shibe Park, was a Major League Baseball stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The stadium opened in 1909 as Shibe Park and was renamed Connie Mack Stadium in 1953 in honor of the longtime manager and owner of the Philadelphia Athletics. The Athletics of the American League played in the stadium until the 1954 season before relocating to Kansas City in 1955. The National League's Philadelphia Phillies played at the stadium from 1938 until the stadium was closed in 1970. The stadium was razed in 1976.

The National Football League's Philadelphia Eagles also played at the stadium during most of the 1940s.
