Dahab

Dahab (دهب) is a small village in the south-east of the Sinai peninsula. Formerly a Bedouin fishing village, the construction of hotels and other ancillary facilities has now made this a popular destination with tourists. The word Dahab in Arabic means gold and is possibly a reference to the fact that the village is sited on an alluvial flood plain where gold may have accumulated after being washed down from the desert mountains.

The sea surrounding Dahab is particularly noted for the quality of the reefs which make for spectacular diving and snorkelling. The nearby Blue Hole is an internationally famous dive spot.
