Dashboard Confessional

From open-encyclopedia.com - the free encyclopedia.

Dashboard Confessional is an American emo band led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Chris Carrabba from Boca Raton, Florida. The current lineup includes Carrabba (guitar, vocals), Scott Shoenbeck (bass guitar), John Lefler (guitar), and Mike Marsh (drums).

History

Carrabba taught himself to play guitar at age 15, although skateboarding remained his main interest throughout high school. During the mid- to late-1990s, Carrabba played in such punk and hardcore bands as The Vacant Andys, The Agency, and Further Seems Forever. However, it wasn't long before he began doing low-key, acoustic concerts on his own. For a while the project went nameless, until Carrabba decided to borrow a line from one of his songs ("The Sharp Hint of New Tears"), resulting in the name Dashboard Confessional.

Dashboard Confessional has since grown from a one-man acoustic act into a full-blown emo band with hits such as "Screaming Infidelities," "Saints and Sailors," "Hands Down," "Ghost of a Good Thing," and most recently, "Vindicated" from the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack.

Dashboard Confessional's first tour was with a screamo band called Boy Sets Fire. Although Boy Sets Fire does not play the same sort of music as Dashboard, most of the fans at the concert knew all of Carrabba's lyrics. As Dashboard has risen in popularity, they have begun playing in larger arenas and have had more theatrical shows, rather than the intimate emotional setting of their first few tours.
