De Tomaso is an Italian automobile manufacturing company. It was founded by the Argentinian-born Alessandro De Tomaso (1928–2003) in Modena in 1959.
Originally, De Tomaso designed various prototypes including racers.
De Tomaso models
His first model was named De Tomaso Vallelunga in 1963. The sporting car was propelled with a 105 bhp engine; top speed was 215 km/h. His first production car, the De Tomaso Mangusta, developed in association with Ford, was propelled with a 4728cc V8 Ford engine and had a Ghia coupé bodywork. The following model, the De Tomaso Pantera sports coupé, appeared in 1970, with a 5796cc V8 engine. The same year, the Mangusta acquired a bigger, 4949cc V8 engine and there was also the 5796cc De Tomaso Deauville, which had luxurious limousine bodywork. In 1972, a luxurious coupé named De Tomaso Longchamp was introduced. At the end of the 1970s, De Tomaso used 300 bhp engines in the Pantera L and the Deauville. The most powerful model version was the 330bhp Pantera GTS. His latest model was De Tomaso Guara, presented in 1994 with a 309 bhp engine; top speed was 274 km/h.
De Tomaso always built high performance, expensive supercars in small numbers.
