Gen Fukunaga is the founder and president of FUNimation, a company that distributes anime in the United States and Canada.
Fukunaga was born in Japan but he grew up in West Lafayette, Indiana. His inspiration for his job came when he moved to Japan in the 8th grade. He became surprised at the difference between the animation in the USA and the animation in Japan.
Fukunaga attended Purdue University and moved to Boca Raton, Florida to work for IBM. But he decided to go for a management-based career, so he went to Columbia University to get an MBA. He held a position with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) before getting a job with Tandem Computers in Sunnyvale, California.
Fukunaga asked his uncle about bringing Japanese animation to North America. Fukunaga's uncle took him to a meeting with Toei Animation. Fukunaga decided to air Dragon Ball Z, and FUNimation was established in 1994.
Fukunaga lives in Roanoke, Texas, has a wife, Cindy, and has three children.
