German Monarchy

From open-encyclopedia.com - the free encyclopedia.

The German Monarchy was a short-lived monarchy that ruled Germany from the unification of Germany as the German Empire in 1871 to the German Revolution of 1918.

The head of the German monarchy was the Kaiser (emperor). The German royal family was part of the Hohenzollern dynasty. They were also descendants of the House of Hanover who had served as the British Royal Family. Though they only ruled Germany for a short period, the family had a long legacy as rulers of Prussia (see King of Prussia).
