Glen Keane is perhaps the most famous lead traditional (2D) animator in recent history. He is currently employed at Disney.
Glen is the son of Bil Keane, an illustrator of his own right best known for the comic strip The Family Circus.
He graduated from CalArts in 1974 and joined Disney the same year.
He made his debut working on Pete's Dragon, The Rescuers and most notably animated the bear scene in The Fox and the Hound.
In 1982, (being inspirated by the Tron movie) he worked with John Lasseter on Where the Wild Things Are, a 30 second short movie integrating traditional character animation on a computer generated background.
On The Great Mouse Detective, he was the lead animator of the Ratigan character. He then animated Fagin and Georgette in Oliver & Company. On The Rescuers Down Under, he animated the golden eagle, and Marahute. He then became acustomed to character lead animator post, as he animated Ariel (The Little Mermaid), Beast (Beauty and the Beast), Aladdin, Pocahontas, Tarzan and lastly Silver in Treasure Planet.
Currently, Glen Keane is bringing his talent to the computer-generated world, as he is the director for Disney's upcoming CG film, Rapunzel Unbraided, expected to hit theaters in 2007.
