JJY

From open-encyclopedia.com - the free encyclopedia.

JJY is the callsign of a longwave time signal radio station similar to WWVB. The station is located in Japan, operated by a branch of the Japanese government known as the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology. JJY broadcasts a 50 kW signal on 40 kHz from a transmitter site on Mount Otakadoya, near Fukushima (37°22'N, 140°51'E), and a separate 50 kW signal on 60 kHz from a transmitter site on Mount Hagane (33°28'N, 130°11'E), located on Kyushu Island. Both carrier signals contain an identical pulse-width modulated time code, and are transmitted 24 hours a day. The format of this time code is not the same as that used by WWVB.
