Jaguar knight

From open-encyclopedia.com - the free encyclopedia.

Jaguar knight refers to some members of the Aztec army that were professional soldiers. These soldiers would be classified as special forces with the distinction of either Jaguar or Eagle knights or warriors. Jaguar warriors were feared by their opponents in battle. The warriors used uniforms made from jaguar skins to create this fear. Warriors advanced by displaying great skill or fighting ability. A warrior who has captured 4-5 prisoners in battle was usually given the title of the Jaguar. Live prisoners were the most important prize during battle. Prisoners provided human sacrifices for the Aztecs. In order to achieve these prisoners, warriors would strike enemies in the legs to debilitate rather than kill. Prisoners would live in the care of their captor until it was time for the sacrifice. The special forces gave warriors a feeling of nobility and displayed the warrior’s strength and importance to others.
