Milorad B. Protitch

From open-encyclopedia.com - the free encyclopedia.

Milorad B. Protitch (Милорад Б. Протић), born August 6 1910 in Belgrade, died October 29 2001 in Belgrade, is a Serbian astronomer.

An alternative transliteration of his surname might be Protich, however he seems to use the form Protitch in publications.

He has discovered a number of asteroids:

  • 1517 Beograd, named after Belgrade
  • 1550 Tito, named after Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito
  • 1554 Yugoslavia, named after Yugoslavia
  • 1564 Srbija, named after Serbia
  • 1675 Simonida, named after queen Simonida, wife of medieval Serbian king Milutin
  • 2244 Tesla, named after Nikola Tesla
  • 2348 Michkovitch, named after Vojislav V. Michkovitch (1892-1976), member of Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and head of Belgrade Astronomical Observatory.

Asteroid 22278 Protitch (discovered by H. Debehogne) is named after him, while 1724 Vladimir (discovered by E. Delporte) is named after his grandson.
