Ouistreham

Ouistreham is a commune of the Calvados département, in the Basse-Normandie région, in France. Its postal code is 14150. The INSEE code is 14488.

Ouistreham is a small port with fishing boats, leisure craft and a scheduled cross-Channel ferry service to Portsmouth. It serves as the port of the city of Caen.

History

  • June 6, 1944, it was in Ouistreham that the only the French forces involved in the D-Day landings disembarked, namely 177 men of the Commando Kieffer.
