St. Michael and Gudula Cathedral

The St. Michael and Gudula Cathedral is located at at the Treurenberg hill in Brussels, Belgium. Completed circa 1047, the Duke of Brabant, transfered the relics of Saint Gudula to the new church. St. Michael and Gudula are the patron saints of Belgium.

In the 13th century, the cathedral was renovated in the Gothic style. The choir was constructed between 1226 and 1276. The facade was completed in the mid 15th century.

It is the episcopal see of the Archbishop of Mechlin-Brussels, currently His Eminence Cardinal Danneels, and therefore the leading Catholic church in Belgium.
