Single-use zoning

From open-encyclopedia.com - the free encyclopedia.

A practice of urban planning where everyday uses are separated from each other and where land use of the same type is grouped together. Shops are concentrated in one area, housing in another area, industry in another. Critics argue that putting everyday uses out of walking distance of each other leads to an increase in traffic since people have to get in their cars and drive just to meet their needs throughout the day.
