Sodipodi
From open-encyclopedia.com - the free encyclopedia.
Sodipodi is an open source vector graphics editor released under the GNU GPL
It is designed specifically around the SVG standard, using the file format (with some extensions to hold metadata) as its native storage format. It will import and export plain SVG data, and can also export bitmap images in PNG format. The user interface of Sodipodi is a Controlled Single Document Interface (CSDI) similar to The GIMP.
The main author is Lauris Kaplinski, and several other people have contributed to the project.
Recently, a SVG clip art collection has been started, which contains flags and symbols from around the world.
While the design goal of Sodipodi is to produce a usable editor for vector graphics, it is not intended to be a full implementation of the SVG standard. Inkscape is a fork of Sodipodi, founded by some Sodipodi developers in order to implement the SVG parts missing in Sodipodi. Another goal of the Inkscape project is to craft a GUI compliant to the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines.
