The Freechild Project

The Freechild Project is an activist research & training group founded in Olympia, Washington by Adam Fletcher. Freechild is dedicated to making social change action, education, and resources more accessible for young people around the world, especially those who have been historically denied participation. Their massive website is home to the world's largest directory of youth-led and youth-serving organizations who are trying to change the world, especially in the areas of youth activism, youth rights, youth-led media, student-led school change, and meaningful student involvement.
Freechild has been influenced by historical figures such as Mother Jones, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., Paulo Freire, Myles Horton, and John Holt. Important organizational role models include Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, Students for a Democratic Society, Highlander Center, and the Midwest Academy. Contemporary heroes include bell hooks, Henry Giroux, Mike Males, and many others. Organizational allies include National Youth Rights Association, TakingITGlobal, and others.
