VC-1

From open-encyclopedia.com - the free encyclopedia.

VC-1 is the title of the SMPTE standardization effort of a video codec based on Microsoft Windows Media Video version 9.

It is an evolution from the DCT-based video codec defined in MPEG-2 (aka 13818-2). It is widely seen as an alternative to the evolutionary MPEG video codec H.264 aka AVC aka MPEG-4 Part 10.
