Worcester v. Georgia

Worcester v. Georgia, 31 U.S. 515 (1832) was a case in which the United States Supreme Court held that Cherokee Indians were entitled to federal protection from the actions of state governments.
It is considered one of the most influential decisions in the area of law applicable to Native Americans. In effect, the opinions challenged the constitutionality of the Indian Removal Act and the U. S. Government precedent for unapplied Indian-federal law was established by President Andrew Jackson's defiant enforcement of the removal against the decision of the Court.
